UMY Extends Generous Subsidies to Student Exchange Participants, Encouraging Excellence and Responsibility

Yogyakarta, October 13, 2023 – In a heartening display of support for its students, the Yogyakarta Atma Jaya University (UMY) provided substantial subsidies to a group of accomplished student exchange participants during a ceremony held at the YATS Colony on October 13, 2023.

The event, which took place from 16.00 to 18.00, saw UMY’s Director of the International and Governmental Affairs Office (IGOV), Sakir Ridho Wijaya, S. IP., M. IP., preside over the subsidy distribution. Alongside him were two key IGOV staff members, Muhammad Naufal Rofi, S.I.P., and Fauziah Nauri Qisty, S.H., representing the academic and internationalization departments, respectively.

The subsidy recipients, comprising talented UMY students who had participated in student exchange programs, were recognized for their academic achievements and their commitment to upholding the university’s reputation. This commendable initiative aimed to support the pursuit of academic excellence while encouraging the recipients to fulfill their program responsibilities diligently.

Director Sakir Ridho Wijaya, while handing over the subsidies, offered valuable advice to the recipients. He encouraged them to continue seizing opportunities for growth, to fulfill their program obligations promptly, and to maintain the prestigious reputation of both UMY and the IGOV department.

The subsidy distribution ceremony not only underscored UMY’s commitment to supporting its students but also served as a testament to the institution’s emphasis on academic excellence and responsible conduct. It is anticipated that these subsidies will further inspire these accomplished students to excel in their academic pursuits and continue representing UMY with pride on the global stage.

Students Exchange IGOV Students in Various Countries

After conducting a student exchange, several IGOV students shared various very memorable experiences. Reviewing the motivation that prompted them to go to Students exchange, Salsa, an IGOV student class of 2021, revealed that he wanted to prove how difficult and strict the educational curriculum system there was. Apart from that, he said his interest in Korea made him very motivated to do Students Exchange at Dong-A University.

Carrying out student exchange programs in various countries provides IGOV students with broad exposure to develop their potential and develop healthy competition in the academic environment. Riza said that the very supportive academic environment at Khon Kaen University made her very inspired to be able to continue her master’s degree in Thailand. “Even the lecturer there said, ‘Don’t delete my number, later I will give you recommendations for further campuses,” said Rizza, repeating the words of the lecturer there. According to him, the lecture atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly, making him happy with yesterday’s student exchange. He also added that the lecturers were very friendly, which was a plus for students who wanted to study there.

Students exchange activities have become a mandatory requirement for every international class student. Student exchange offers an international experience so some preparations must be prepared well in advance, because there are many documents that must be completed and updated. Apart from that, English language skills must also be improved as proof that students are ready to undertake this program. Kevin said that he had made a lot of preparations before registering exchange students long ago, including selecting the destination campus for exchange students to University Sains Malaysia (USM). The choice of USM Malaysia was due to the university’s ranking in the top 10 best campuses in Southeast Asia. Kevin said “It’s a privilege to be able to do a student exchange at USM, because the students don’t only come from Asia, there are also many from Europe.” Apart from that, exchange students really develop their international exposure so that in the future IGOV students can exist and be useful in all aspects of international life.

IGOV STUDENT EXCHANGE PREPARATION TO MAEJO UNIVERSITY

In the context of the IGOV Student Exchange to Maejo University, there are four students who have registered as student exchange participants to Maejo University, namely Muhammad Riau Pamungkas, Awaliya Nisa Maharani, Vanesian Noor Sarmila Putri, and Galuh Pratama Jati. With this, they all felt happy and couldn’t wait to carry out Student Exchange activities because this activity was eagerly awaited by them.

Before leaving for Thailand, students have prepared several things, namely strengthening their intentions, mentality and commitment to carrying out activities while there, ensuring the facilities in the dormitory such as kitchen and laundry, and finding out about the culture and environment around Maejo University. Apart from that, participants also have an idea of what they will do while there apart from studying. Such as creating content about daily activities, learning Thai culture and introducing Indonesian culture to Maejo University friends.

Discussion on the Determination of Final Project/Thesis Titles and Thesis Advisors

Yogyakarta (20/09/23). Every level of education has a final project that must be completed by its students, as evidence that the students are capable and entitled to receive a degree from the educational institution. Entering their final year of study, the students of IGOV from the 2020 cohort were required to prepare for their final projects. On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, a total of 11 students from the 2020 IGOV cohort participated in a discussion regarding the determination of their final project or thesis titles and their thesis advisors. This discussion was led and attended by the director of IGOV, Sakir Ridho Wijaya, S.IP., M.IP., along with the academic staff of IGOV, Muhammad Naufal Rofi, S.I.P. Ten students were present at the discussion, followed by one student who participated online.

The activity took place from 01:30 to 02:30. The discussion proceeded smoothly, with all attending students actively engaging in the conversation until its conclusion. As an outcome, the students were assisted in finalizing their final project titles and receiving recommendations for thesis advisors suitable for their research topics or titles. The director of IGOV emphasized the importance of consistent consultation with their thesis advisors and maintaining a strong connection with them to ensure they can complete their studies within the designated timeframe. New IGOV Students Experience in New Academic Year

Monday, September 18, 2023, marked the first day of the odd semester for the academic year 2023/2024. The first day of classes was filled with a multitude of new students arriving at their classrooms to meet their professors and discuss various curricula and syllabi that they would be studying for the semester. Joyful faces adorned the new students as they exited their classes and met their new friends.

New students of IGOV 2023 also felt a sense of excitement as they attended their first day of classes. Rasya Aditya Hariana, one of the new IGOV students, shared her impressions of the first day of lectures at IGOV. When asked about the learning process, Rasya mentioned that she was very happy and excited because IGOV was helping pave the way for her to achieve her goals and dreams. She also noted that the learning process was engaging and communicative. It wasn’t just the professors who delivered the course materials comprehensively; students were also given the opportunity to express their aspirations and opinions during their classes. “The discussions are exciting, comfortable, and the professors are communicative. We’re encouraged to have conversations, and the learning process is more relaxed,” she expressed when asked about her opinion of the professors teaching at IGOV.

Rasya also added that being in the same class with international students helped regular IGOV students improve their English language skills. Additionally, they exchanged experiences and cultures from their respective regions, making them a solid and cohesive unit.

MOU with Bukidnon State University dan Central Mindanao University (CMU)

Thursday, 14 September 2023 IGOV UMY, got a golden opportunity to establish a strategic partnership between Central Mindanao University (CMU) and Muhammadiyah University Yogyakarta (UMY). UMY lecturers were received with great honor by Prof. Rolito G. Eballe, Ph.D., as President of CMU, who was also accompanied by four Vice Presidents.

Friday, 15 September 2023, The Lecture of IGOV, Prof. Dr. Eko Priyo Purnomo, got the opportunity to give “Lecture Series” in front of 200 students of Department of Social Science. The material that he delivered was the result of in-depth research on “Tourism and Politics”. In the afternoon, he participated in a meeting with the leadership of Bukidnon State University, discussing the potential for cooperation between the College of Public Administration & Governance and the College of Nursing with UMY.

IGOV UMY Rechieved its Achievement in The Field of Finance for the 2022/2023 Academic Year.

Yogyakarta (15/9) – The Government Science International Class Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (IP UMY) has repeatedly won academic achievements from both lecturers as teaching staff and students. This time IGOV UMY also demonstrated its achievements in the financial sector again by winning Compliance in Submitting Accountability Reports (LPJ) for Activities for the 2022/2023 Academic Year.

The determination of the championship in the administrative field was conveyed during the university level Annual Work Meeting (RKT) which was held on Monday (28/8). UMY IP Administration succeeded in achieving first place, beating other study programs within UMY. The championship level given aims to give appreciation to study programs that have the best administrative performance.

Amanda Aspasia Dilla’s Inspirational Exchange Student Journey at USM Malaysia

Amanda Aspasia Dilla, anggota angkatan 2022 memulai program pertukaran pelajar transformatif ke Malaysia, khususnya di Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Motivasinya dalam upaya ini berakar pada keinginan untuk terhubung dengan beragam budaya dan meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasinya. Tujuan utama Amanda adalah merasakan kehidupan di luar negeri, mendapatkan wawasan tentang berbagai norma sosial, dan mengamati sistem pendidikan terkemuka di Malaysia. Meskipun awalnya ada kendala bahasa, tekad Amanda dan pendekatan proaktif terhadap akademisi memungkinkannya mengatasi tantangan dan memperoleh keterampilan lintas budaya yang sangat berharga, menyoroti pertumbuhan pribadi yang dapat ditawarkan oleh program pertukaran pelajar internasional.

Pengalaman pertukaran Amanda tidak hanya memperluas wawasannya tetapi juga memperkaya keahliannya. The English Booster program assists students in enhancing their English language proficiency.

English Booster is a program that improves IGOV students’ English skills as the language used in learning and lecturing. The focus of English Booster activities includes English language training in the English village of Pare for one month, off-campus and on-campus activities with foreign students, and English language course curriculum specifications according to the needs of IGOV students. GOV English Booster is a special facility for IGOV students which can help students develop various English language skills intensively and accompanied by various professional teachers.

This year, IGOV has sent 8 students from the class of 2022 to deepen their English language skills at the Daffodils Language Development Institute. During one month they had many memorable learning experiences. One of the students, Reyga said “what made me interested in this program was because I saw my English which was not good before joining it and now I feel the change immediately starting from the past”. Apart from that, other students said that they had gained a lot of experience and new relationships that supported each other in improving their English skills.

They said that this was a useful experience especially because it encouraged them to speak English there. a learning environment that is conducive to learning, welcoming students of all levels, whether beginners, intermediate or advanced students. The availability of resources and facilities makes it easier to explore and improve English language skills. Apart from that, students appreciate the kind and supportive nature of tutors which makes the learning process enjoyable. Camp Daffodil stands out as an excellent place to learn English, as it emphasizes the practical application of the language throughout the program.

Visayas University Exchange Students Arrive in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Yogyakarta, September 10, 2023 – The picturesque Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) recently witnessed a warm reception as staff members from the Internasional Program of Government Affairs and Administration (IGOV) at Universitas Muhammdiyah Yogyakarta played gracious hosts university to a group of inbound exchange students from Visayas University on September 10, 2023.

The IGOV team, led by Fauziah Nauri Qisty, S.H., and Fransiska Regita Setianingrum, went from the Postgraduate building promptly at 08:00. The students from Visayas Arrived at YIA at 09:35, and continued with a delightful lunch at the famed Pak Min’s Chicken Soup, where they indulged in local cuisine, introducing the students to the flavors of Indonesia.

One challenge encountered during the visit was the exchange of currency. Due to the recent release of a new version of the Philippine currency, the staff faced difficulties exchanging money at the airport. However, they looked for nearby money changers around the airport, ensuring that the students had access to local currency for their stay.
With the currency resolved, the IGOV team, along with the exchange students, headed towards their next destination, Unires Putri, where they arrived at 02:00.
