Class of 2022 Students Giving Speech as Final Project

The students of the IGov class of 2022 recently undertook a unique final project for their English course. As part of their assignment, they were required to deliver speeches in front of their classmates. Each student took turns presenting their chosen theme, selecting material from TED videos to support their speech. Some students opted to enhance their presentations with PowerPoint slides, while others chose to deliver their speeches without visual aids. Miss Fitra, their English course lecturer, decided to introduce this alternative assignment format to foster creativity and engagement among her students. According to Nurizza, an IGov student from the class of 2022, the activity proved to be incredibly exciting, and all the students were enthusiastic participants.

The speeches were delivered in a total of eight classes, allowing each student to showcase their presentation skills and express their individual interests. This project provided a valuable opportunity for the students to refine their public speaking abilities and further develop their English language proficiency. By selecting TED videos as their reference material, the students were able to explore a wide range of topics and present diverse perspectives to their peers. The use of PowerPoint presentations added an interactive element to the speeches, enhancing the overall learning experience. Miss Fitra’s decision to deviate from traditional written assignments demonstrated her commitment to fostering a dynamic and engaging learning environment.

Handover of 3 MBKM ISI DKV Internship Participants to IGOV UMY

Yogyakarta, June 16, 2023 – In an effort to broaden students’ perspectives and enhance their experiences, the Internship Program based on Students’ Knowledge and Skills (MBKM) at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) in Visual Communication Design (DKV) has handed over 3 internship participants to the International Government (IGOV) at Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY). The event took place in the Study Hall from 13:00 to 14:00 and involved various stakeholders.

The event began with a welcome speech from the Director of IGOV, Mr. Sakir Ridho Wijaya, S.IP., M.IP., extending greetings to the internship participants from MBKM ISI DKV. The internship participants, Siska and Fawwaz, were present at the event, while one participant was unable to attend. Also, present at the event were the internship supervisors from MBKM ISI DKV and three staff members from IGOV UMY, namely Muhammad Naufal Rofi, Fauzia Nauri Qisty, and Nurul Izzah Aulia.

During the introduction session, the internship participants were given an explanation of their tasks and responsibilities during their internship at IGOV UMY. Detailed information about their job desk was provided, ensuring that the participants understood their roles in supporting IGOV’s activities and programs. Additionally, the internship participants had the opportunity to take part in a campus tour of UMY. They were guided to visit various facilities and lecture rooms that would serve as their working and learning spaces during the internship.

The Director of IGOV expressed appreciation for the collaboration between MBKM ISI DKV and IGOV UMY in providing internship opportunities for students. It is hoped that the internship participants will be able to maximize their experiences and develop their potential and skills in a stimulating and supportive work environment.

UMY Summer School Explores Challenges and Opportunities in AI Innovation

Yogyakarta, Indonesia (AFP) – The highly anticipated opening ceremony of the 2023 summer school took place on June 14, 2023, with the theme “Opportunities and Challenges in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation.” The event began at 13:00 in the AR Fachruddin B meeting room on the fifth floor. Dr. H. Emil Elestianto Dardak, B. Bus, M.Sc., delivered a keynote address, captivating the audience with his insights into the topic.

Deans, international program secretaries, focal point representatives, foreign students, and invited guests were among those who attended the summer school. The Chancellor of Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University, Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, MP., IPM., initiated the proceedings with a gong strike, symbolizing the official start of the event.

During his speech, Dr. Emil Elestianto Dardak emphasized the challenges that come with AI’s rapid development. “When defining challenges, it is critical to anticipate potential roadblocks that may arise as AI evolves.” “However, I am confident that with an expanding pool of human resources, there will be numerous solutions to overcome these challenges,” Dr. Emil stated.

While acknowledging the difficulties, Dr. Emil emphasized the significant benefits AI brings to society. He also emphasized the importance of Indonesia playing a pivotal role in AI implementation, owing to the country’s abundant capabilities. Prof. Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P., IPM., ASEAN. Eng., Chancellor of UMY, echoed these sentiments, stating that AI has revolutionized various fields of work while also posing a threat.

This honor prompted the theme “Opportunities and Challenges in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation” to be chosen for this year’s UMY Summer School. Prof. Gunawan Budiyanto highlighted the event’s distinctive features, revealing that it differed conceptually and technically from previous years. Notably, the UMY Summer School, which has been running successfully for five years, provided participants with a choice of 18 diverse programs to explore. [Yatch Colonial Sari] – In a bid to promote international collaboration and offer students unique global experiences, interviews were recently conducted for students participating in the prestigious student exchange programs at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Asia Universiti. The event, held at the esteemed Yatch Colonial Sari, witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students eager to embark on transformative academic journeys.

A total of seven exceptional students were shortlisted for the student exchange programs. Five bright individuals, namely Handaru Maya, Bagas, Arik, Girls, and Sasa, were selected for the USM exchange program, while Adit and Galuh secured coveted spots in the Asia Universiti exchange program.
