Disaster Management Course Invites the Head of BPBD Bantul for Tsunami Disaster Evacuation Socialization

Yogyakarta (8/7) – Disaster mitigation is a series of efforts to reduce disaster risk through physical development and awareness and capacity building in dealing with disaster threats (Article 1 paragraph 6 of PP No. 21 of 2008 concerning the Implementation of Disaster Management). Mitigation is defined as an effort to reduce the impact of a disaster. Therefore, to increase awareness to the public, the Disaster Management subject was taught by lecturer Sakir Ridho Wijaya, S.IP., M.IP. held a socialization of tsunami evacuation by BPBD Bantul by inviting the head of BPBD Bantul Suprihana, ST., MT. The event was held in the Amphitheater Room on the 4th floor of the Postgraduate Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Friday, 8 July 2022.

The Bantul area is flanked by mountains in the north and the sea in the south, causing BPBD to always be on standby to deal with disasters such as floods, landslides, earthquakes, and extreme weather, etc. In addition, the Bantul area is crossed by the Indo-Australian and Eurasian plates which causes Indonesia to be frequently hit by earthquakes and tsunamis.

With this socialization activity, it is hoped that students can become the spearhead of the community in providing information about natural disasters, as stated by Mr. Suprihana “students must be the spearhead in conducting socialization to the community regarding disasters, because apart from having received a course on disaster management, they have also received disaster management courses. get socialization from BPBD Bantul.” (ARP)
