Preparing Students for Student Exchange to Thailand, IGOV UMY Holds a Sharing Session with the Head of IGSC

Yogyakarta (10/12) – To socialize on what needs to be prepared before the exchange to Thailand and after arriving in Thailand, the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta invited Moch Noerizza Triananta who was conducting a student exchange to Khon Kaen University, Thailand to share his experiences

The activity was held on Thursday (8/12) via Zoom Meetings and was attended by batch 2020 IGOV UMY students who were preparing for a Student Exchange to University Maejo, Thailand. On this occasion, Rizza shared tips starting from making visas until taking care of administration at the immigration office in Khon Kaen. In addition, he also shared some regulations that must be respected in Thailand.

“There are several regulations that are very different from Indonesia, such as talking bad about the Thai monarchy or smoking in public places,” said Rizza

Apart from that, he also gave some tips & tricks to survive and expand relationships in Thailand which is very important for newcomers or students who want to study in Thailand.

“As an exchange student expanding relations is of course very important, therefore you can join student associations in Thailand such as Permitha.cmu namely, student associations in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Apart from that, to save your expenses don’t shop for your needs at supermarts like Seven-Eleven” Rizza said

With this activity, it is hoped that IGOV UMY students who wish to do a Student Exchange to Thailand will get the necessary information so that student exchange activities can run smoothly.(ARP)

Felicidades! One of the IGOV Student Became the Chairman of the KOMAP UMY

Yogyakarta (9/12) – Government Science Student Corps (KOMAP) held an offline conoration on Wednesday (7/12). This conoration was held in the Postgraduate Seminar Room at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) and conorated by the Head of the UMY Government Science Study Program (Prodi IP), Dr. Tunjung Sulaksono, S.IP., M.Si.

On this occasion, Mr. Tunjung appreciated the hard work of the new management who had struggled from the selection process to being officially sworn in today. Not forgetting, he also expressed his gratitude to the previous period of UMY’s KOMAP management who had contributed to helping the UMY IP Study Program to become better.

However, something was interesting about the conoration of KOMAP 2022/2023, the inauguration of a new chairperson came from the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration (IGOV) UMY, Satrya Dhillan Bagaskara, one of the batch 2020 students.

The student who is often called Dhillan has been a member of KOMAP UMY since semester 1 and has made many contributions to advancing KOMAP UMY such as becoming a member of the advocacy study division in the 2020/2021 period followed by becoming the head of the advocacy study division in the 2021/2022 period and taking part in in the event division for Masa Taaruf IP UMY.

Of course, this achievement deserves to be appreciated apart from developing potential and advancing KOMAP UMY it can bring a good image of IGOV UMY in eliminating exclusivity that is often seen by other students.

“I hope that other IGOV UMY friends can take part in maintaining the good name of IGOV UMY by making achievements starting from the campus environment”

Apart from that, this shows that UMY IGOV students have contributed to making achievements, not only on the international stage but in small things like in the campus environment. (ARP)

Continuing to Learn, IGOV UMY Students participate in the Borobudur International Symposium

Yogyakarta (8/12) – To enhance internationalization activities and improve soft skills in writing and public speaking, several students of the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (IGOV UMY) submitted their papers to the Borobudur International Symposium on Humanities and Social Sciences organized by Universitas Muhammadiyah Magelang (UNIMMA). The Submit abstract paper activity was held on Monday (5/12) at the Laboratorium Government Science UMY.

The international symposium held by UNIMMA raised the theme ”The Innovation Chain: A Contribution to Society and Industry”. The background of this theme is the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on all the 17 SDGs has demonstrated how what began as a health catastrophe swiftly transformed into a human, socioeconomic and environmental crisis. Some of the presenters in this symposium namely Prof. Nuran Acur from the University of Glasgow, Scotland; Dr. Sukanya Dej-adisai from Prince of Songkla University, Thailand; and Dr. Matthias Wetzel Asia University, Taiwan

On this occasion, 9 students participated in the international symposium, some of these names are Kevin Arya Pranaja IGOVers batch 2021, Amanda Aspasia Dilla IGOVers batch 2021, Salsa Della Guitara Putri IGOVers batch 2021, Gumesa Rahma Jati IGOVers batch 2021, Bagaskoro Nur Abu Yogar IGOVers batch 2021, M. Akbar Nugraha Sabarna IGOVers batch 2021, Reyga Pramudita IGOVers batch 2022, Nur Izzaturahmah IGOVers batch 2022, and Rizky Febriyanto IGOVers batch 2022.

Previously, several IGOV UMY students had won the title of Best Presenter at the National Symposium held by Muhammadiyah University of Lampung (UML). However, this does not make them arrogant and makes them enthusiastic to continue to seek knowledge and improve their abilities. As stated by Gumesa Rahma Jati.

“Even though we received an award yesterday as the best presenter at UML, it doesn’t make us arrogant and feel we can do it, instead it makes us feel like we don’t know anything and want to keep learning so that our values will continue to be honed and developed,” he said. (ARP)

Felicidades! IGOV UMY Students Make Achievements Again at the National Seminar at the University of Muhammadiyah Lampung

Yogyakarta (7/12) – For the umpteenth time, the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (IGOV UMY) students made another achievement at the National Symposium at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Lampung (UML). The national symposium which was held from Wednesday (9/11) to Thursday (10/11) was commanded by the Asosiasi Ilmu Pemerintahan Peguruan Tinggi Muhammadiyah (AIPPTM) which consists of various Muhammadiyah universities throughout Indonesia, one of which is UML.

At the national symposium this time the committee was conducted by the UML Government Science Study Program with the theme ”Peluang dan Tantangan Mewujudkan Go-Digital Dalam Tata Kelola Pemerintahan”. The background of this theme is the government’s uproar in implementing digital services in this disruptive era. as for some of the presenters in this symposium namely Drs. Ahmad Bastian SY., as Member of Committee 1 DPD RI Lampung, Prof. Dr. Achmad Nurmandi, M.Sc., as Chairman of KAPSIPI and Advisor to AIPPTM, Drs. Nur Islam, M.I.P., as the Dean of Social Sciences UML.

On this occasion, UMY IGOV students participated in a scientific competency event which was attended by students from various other tertiary institutions. Through this symposium, IGOV UMY students have won various championships as the best presenters in the scientific work they have compiled. Visiting Professor: Public Administration Theories

Yogyakarta (6/12) – The visiting professor this time raised the theme Introduction to Economics which discussed the topic of Public Administration Theory, an activity that is routinely held by the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration at Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta University (IGOV UMY) is a form of concern for its students for the sake of creating an international climate and help deepen students’ knowledge of current issues regarding governance in an international sphere that they may not get in class.

On this occasion, presenting a speaker named Dr. Wei Yang who is an international lecturer at the College of Local Administration, Khon Kaen University, Thailand was attended by all IGOV Batch 2022 students. It started at 12.32 and began with information about the ASEAN GMS scholarship from IGOVers 2014, Hidayatullah Hamim. After that, it was followed by material presented by Dr. Wei Yang, who opened with a discussion of the five paradigms of Public Administration and went into the core material discussing Public Administration theories, such as Critics of Classical Organizational Theory, Neo-Classical Public Administration, and Modern Theory.

Furthermore, the speaker stated that the concept of Good Governance is a combination of Classical and Neo-Classical Theories approaches which are expected to be able to provide effectiveness to civil society and create a successful private sector. The speaker also added an explanation regarding the problem of inequality in China Starts from the poor and rich gap, such as in Beijing, and other inequalities, such as economic inequality and social inequality. The visiting professor went well and the topics raised were also interesting, thus raising the curiosity of the participants who were accommodated in the question and answer session at the end of the event as well as the closing.(ARP)

Visiting Professor: Local Government Development in a Malaysian Perspective

Yogyakarta (5/12) – At this Visiting Professor session, the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta invited Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halimah Abdul Manaf as the dean of the School of Government, University Utara Malaysia. Visiting Professor is an activity that aims to provide new insights that are closely related to teaching subjects, especially for students of the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration at Muhammadiyah University Yogyakarta (IGOV UMY). In addition, visiting professors also help deepen students’ knowledge of current issues regarding governance in an international sphere that they may not get in class.

This event started at 14.40, and was attended by all IGOV UMY students Batch 2021. On this occasion the presenters discussed the development of local government in Malaysia. Opened with an explanation of how the political system, inter-governmental relations, types of local government, and local authorities in Malaysia. In this discussion, the speaker also said that prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Malaysian government had maximized the use of digital platforms.

After that, it was followed by a discussion of various issues and challenges faced by the Malaysian government. These problems and challenges include, rapid urbanization, citizens have high expectations of the government that considers all countries the same, the ability of local governments to generate their own income, the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and others. This event took place smoothly and the participants looked very enthusiastic, in the end the event was closed with a question and answer session between the presenters and participants. (ARP)

The output of the Visiting Professor Program is the publication of research results with UMY lecturers in reputable/indexed international journals. In addition, with the Visiting Professor program, students can explore and receive new knowledge and knowledge that lecturers do not necessarily teach at UMY. It can also provide an internationalization experience for UMY students who register for the International class.

Therefore, the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (IGOV UMY) held a Visiting Professor activity which became a routine activity at IGOV UMY. In this Visiting Professor, IGOV UMY invited Agustiyara, MPA., from the Eötvös Loránd University, Hungary. The activity was held on Saturday (3/12) through the Zoom Meetings and moderated by Nawang Kurniawati, S.IP., MPA.

In this activity, Mr. Agus brought up the topic of Analysing Regional & Global Climate Change Scenario which he explained about Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) dan Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP), These 2 things have similarities to projecting climate change in the future, but there are differences between the 2 things, SSP based scenarios further refine the previous greenhouse gas concentration scenarios known as Representative Concentration Pathways or RCPs. This is certainly useful for IGOV UMY students to become a provision when they become policymakers regarding the environment, where these data become a reference and not just assumptions in making public policies later. Encouraging Student Enthusiasm, IGOV UMY Holds Student Exchange Socialization

Yogyakarta (2/12) – the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (IGOV UMY) has just held a socialization activity related to student exchange activities at Maejo University, Thailand on Friday (3/12) via Zoom Meetings. This activity was attended by Sakir Ridho Wijaya, S.IP., M.IP., as the director of IGOV UMY, Adibah Dhivani Gusmi, S.IP., as the International Mobility and Cooperation division at IGOV UMY, and IGOV UMY Batch 2020 students who did not do the Student Exchange Program which is a requirement for their graduation.

The program aimed to encourage 12 IGOV UMY Batch 2020 to have an experience with internationalization. At least IGOV UMY students can take part in the Student Exchange Program which is their obligation for graduation requirements. These students were directed to take part in the Student Exchange at Maejo University, Thailand, which is currently open for registration until Saturday (10/12).

“This activity aims for encouraging IGOV UMY students, especially Batch 2020, to not postpone the Student Exchange Program activities which will be burdensome at the end of the semester, for that we direct them to register at Maejo University, Thailand.” Mas Sakir said.

As the director, Mas Sakir hopes that students can prepare for the student exchange program carefully. This is because the student exchange registration is near, both physically, mentally, documentary and financially to reduce unwanted things from happening. (ARP)

In this Visiting Professor, IGOV UMY invited Abdullah Zed Munabari, S.IP., M.SI., from the National Consultant for Smart Green ASEAN Cities (SGAC). The activity was held on Thursday (1/12) through Zoom Meetings to fill in the Urban Governance course taught by Eko Priyo Purnomo, S.IP., M.Sc., M.Res., Ph.D.

In this activity, Mr. Dullah brought up the topic of Urgency in Theorizing Urban Governance which discussed Managing Urban Growth as a challenge in the twenty-first century. The focus of the discussion this time is on managing population mobility with the procurement of the MRT in Jakarta and roads that are friendly to cyclists. Besides that, the discussion continued with Water privatization, water privatization is when private corporations buy or operate public water or wastewater utilities. If this is implemented properly like in the city of Manila, the Philippines will become a strong opportunity to fight water scarcity. Through market competition, higher water prices, and cap and trade programs, water supply can not only be controlled but also be effectively managed. (ARP)

The activity was held on Wednesday (30/11) through Zoom Meetings to fill in the Goods and Services Procurement course taught by Prof. Dr. Achmad Nurmandi, M.Sc.

In this activity, Mr. Jazib brought up the topic of Procurement of Government Goods and Services “The Concept of Collaborative Government: Private-Public Partnership Infrastructure” with several scopes, such as G – G Collaboration & Partnership, Dangers and Growths, Belt and Road Initiative Indonesia, and The Rising & Sinking China. The reason why should collaborate is that it is a correct way of a contractual relationship between one or more government entities and one or more organizations of the private sector. Therefore, the result of the collaboration is making greater efficiency in every aspect. In addition, the collaboration is emphasizing value for money, focusing on reduced costs, better risk allocation, improved services, and possible generation of additional revenue. (ARP)
