The Excitement of IGOV English Booster Participants in the Kampung Inggris, Pare

Yogyakarta (9/8) – It has been 2 weeks since the start of the IGOV English Booster program organized by the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (IGOV UMY). The IGOV English Booster program is a program that aims to improve the English skills of IGOV UMY students to make it easier for them when they want to do Student Exchange or compete in the global world of work. IGOV UMY students were sent to Elfast Kampung Inggris, Pare for a month to focus on learning English.

They felt a lot of excitement, such as meeting new friends, having fun classes, and being able to travel to the city of Pare, Kediri. In addition, the participants have felt their ability to improve in the aspects of carrying out conversations using English as well as regarding Grammar. This is certainly very good because it can increase their confidence when doing Student Exchange abroad where they have to use English when having conversations with their interlocutors.

“It’s very fun, we can vacation productively and also visit tourist attractions around the city of Kediri and not necessarily in Yogyakarta,” said Gumesa Rahma Jati, one of the participants of the IGOV English Booster. (ARP)

IGOV UMY Supports Organizing the Basic Test of Soccer and Physical Fitness SSB HW UMY

Yogyakarta (8/8) – The development of modern football has been integrated with sports science, meaning that today’s football must be measured with various scientific approaches to determine the ability of a player from the basic technical aspects of football to physical fitness. Following this development, SSB HW UMY conducted an evaluation test which was carried out on the UMY football field (07/08).

This activity is routinely held every year, this is done to provide report cards or evaluation results to students to be more enthusiastic in practicing, while for coaches as material to improve certain parts that are lacking from the players being trained. “The results of the basic technical and fitness tests will later produce report cards for students. This is a positive process because every year the guardian will see whether or not there is a development of the child,” said Heri Marjiyo as head coach at SSB HW UMY.

The series of tests for the report cards that have been routinely carried out also received a good response from the guardians. “We see many children whose fitness test scores have increased from last year’s test, this shows that in one year the children experience physical improvement,” said Imam, one of the guardians in the 12-year age group.
The sports science approach carried out by SSB HW UMY received appreciation from the chairman of PS HW Yogyakarta Muhammad Barori to continue as part of Muhammadiyah’s contribution to football development. “This sport science-based early childhood football development model is part of da’wah through football and Muhammadiyah’s contribution to the development of early childhood football,” concluded Muhammad Barori.

The implementation of this activity cannot be separated from the various supporting parties, including the UMY Communication Studies Program and the UMY International Program of Government Affairs and Administration (IGOV). (ARP)

The Importance of International Exposure for Students

Yogyakarta (5/8) – Today, hard skills are not sufficient to obtain employment. Especially now that the era of the 4.0 industrial revolution has arrived. Many jobs will be lost and replaced by new sorts of work in that era. This implies that workers must be capable of adapting to these changes. According to an article on the website of the World Economic Forum, to adapt to industry 4.0, one must have strong soft skills. Therefore, as the future of Indonesian manufacturing, the millennial generation must also develop their soft skills. One method to accomplish this is through overseas experience.

According to Oliver Watson, chief board director of Michael Page, the company significantly values foreign experience. This is because personnel with greater expertise and awareness of diverse cultures may help organizations increase their worldwide reach.

According to gvi.co.uk, there are three reasons why millennials should gain international experience.

Self-development
An advantage of international experience is the chance to learn more about oneself, including one’s strengths and flaws. The experience can also aid in identifying objectives, desires, and desired accomplishments.

Professional career progression
Professional career development is no longer restricted to on-the-job training and experience. Additionally, the experience of connecting with others might aid in the development of a professional career. During gap years, activities may include, for example, voluntary work and internships with domestic and/or international companies. Each of these experiences can cultivate soft skills that are extremely valuable in any profession, including communication, empathy, leadership, flexibility, and critical thinking.

Find your ardor
International experience can help bring out your individuality and enthusiasm, which can then be applied to your way of life. A person with international experience is also more prepared for the future due to his enhanced experience.

Education abroad is no longer required to acquire international experience. Numerous majors in Indonesia incorporate an international experience into their curriculum. International Program in Government Affairs and Administration Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta is one of them (IGOV UMY).

IGOV UMY is an International class from the UMY Government Science Study Program (Prodi IP UMY) that promotes internationalization for its students, with facilities and programs that enable IGOV UMY students to compete in the national and international workplace. By engaging in more international experiences, it is anticipated that students would be able to hone their soft skills, get more knowledge, and be prepared for industrial revolution 4.0. (ARP)

Adding Experience, Knowledge, and International Exposure y Becoming Buddies

Yogyakarta (4/8) – 1 week has passed, and the 3rd International Government and Politics Summer School event (3rd IGoPSS) organized by the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (IGOV UMY) has ended, closing the event took place emotionally and the participants gave a positive impression of the event.

Of course, behind the success of the 3rd IGoPSS event, some parties helped to make the event a success, namely, Buddies or IGOV UMY students who became the committee and at the same time accompanied the participants during the event. Being Buddies is certainly not easy, because the requirements to be Buddies are to be able to speak English, talk active, and have a strong social spirit. In addition, of course, the Buddies get new experiences and new knowledge because they have to talk to the Buddies participants who are from foreign countries. Therefore, buddies can exchange information or share knowledge with other participants.

“Being Buddies at the 3rd IGoPSS event is fun! It can add knowledge and new experiences that are exciting and emotional when you have to be separated and can add to relationships. Of course, being Buddies not everyone can do it because they have to be able to use English, but participating in the event is also an opportunity for buddies to improve their English skills.” Fadhila Septiyaning, one of the Buddies at the 3rd IGoPSS event.
