IGOV UMY Goes to SMAN in Kebumen

Yogyakarta (8/11) – All schools require effective school promotion, especially during this pandemic. It is not uncommon for school administrators to change the way their school promotes itself. This is critical because school promotion is a method of attracting new students to a school. With the right and effective promotion, a school can attract students who meet the school’s expectations and abilities.

International Program of Government Affairs and Administration Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (IGOV UMY) implemented several promotional strategies to entice students to join IGOV UMY and educate them on the numerous advantages and benefits that come with joining IGOV UMY. Among the promotional strategies used by IGOV UMY are visits to SMA in Bojonegoro, East Java, empowerment-based promotional activities, and digital promotions via social media.

One of the promotional activities recently carried out by the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (IGOV UMY) was the Campus Roadshow held by Admisi UMY. On this occasion, IGOV UMY visited SMAN 1 Petanahan and SMAN 1 Bulus Kebumen to introduce the students to the facilities, and programs provided, as well as internationalization. The promotional activity was brought by Foltama Juna Prasetya, one of the promotion teams from IGOV UMY.

At the time, besides introducing IGOV UMY and UMY, the students were very enthusiastic about the initial experience of being a student in Yogyakarta. In addition to adequate facilities at IGOV UMY, Yogyakarta is the main attraction for students to choose a place to study. This was stated by Mas Folta “Besides the students are interested in IGOV UMY and the opportunity to compete globally with the given program, the students are very curious about Yogyakarta and their first experience when studying in Yogyakarta.” (ARP)

What you can do as an Exchange Student besides doing academic activities, By Salsa Latsica Dewi

Yogyakarta (7/11) – Living in a foreign country is not an easy thing to do, especially when there are many differences. However, this will be a new learning experience that will mature us because our minds will be more open. Student exchange is usually synonymous with academic elements only, but the non-academic elements are rarely highlighted. So people who take part in this activity are mostly only oriented to feel the atmosphere of studying abroad. Whereas in addition to carrying out academic activities, students can carry out non-academic activities which will become stories and memories when they return to Indonesia.

As did Salsa Latsica Dewi, one of the students of the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (IGOV UMY) Batch 2020 who is conducting a student exchange program at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia for 1 semester. Besides doing academic activities, she also carries out non-academic activities to expand his network of friends and explore entertainment in Malaysia. According to her, apart from academic activities, there are non-academic activities that students should try when conducting student exchanges, namely:

Strolling around the city
Of course, it will be very unfortunate if we just stay in the dormitory, therefore Salsa uses this opportunity to stroll around Queensbay, Penang, and watch the Sepang MotoGP

2. Try local cuisine
Culinary tourism is a must-try thing for students who are doing student exchanges because we will encounter dishes that do not necessarily exist in Indonesia. For now, Salsa’s favorite local eatery is Mamak Hub in Penang. This local restaurant sells various foods such as nasi lemak, martabak, basmathi fried rice, pizza paratha, etc.

This activity certainly has a positive impact and is an effective way to accelerate the transition and adaptation process. (ARP)

Besides continuing their studies, there are other reasons why they take the scholarship, such as the campus that provides the scholarship has an environment and culture that suits each individual. As stated by the first speaker, Mas Angga revealed that “Besides I’m taking my Master Degree in KKU, Thailand, I took this scholarship because KKU has an environment that suits me (rural) where I don’t really like very noisy environments like in the central city.”

Just like Angga, Nurina took the scholarship because she wanted to continue her studies while traveling around Europe on this scholarship she continued her studies at 2 different campuses each semester, namely Ghent University, Belgium and L’Institut agro Rennes-angers, France. “Maybe for some people moving from place to place is a hassle but when we can get these opportunities again while we continue our studies in Europe and travel around Europe for free?” Nurina said. the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (IGOV UMY) and the UMY Government Science Study Program (Prodi IP UMY) are one of the study programs that implement teaching practitioner programs in their teaching and learning activities. This teaching practitioner is held by providing lecture materials by practitioners who have collaborated with IP UMY with a learning intensity of 6 meetings in one semester. One of the courses that have been implemented in the program is Financial Government taught by Prof. Dr. Dyah Mutiarin, M.Si. with practitioner Dinar Ayu Adeline from the Ministry of Finance of Indonesia(Kemenkeu-RI).

With practitioners who are directly involved in teaching and learning activities, students can find out what the actual situation is in the world of work and the implementation of the courses they are studying. Introduce Mendeley from an early age, IGOV UMY’s Bahasa Indonesia class Held a Workshop on Using Mendeley

Yogyakarta (19/10) – Scientific publications are currently being intensively promoted in higher education institutions to catch up with journal publications from other countries. We are quite far behind compared to neighboring countries, such as Malaysia, and even below Vietnam. The term scientific publication even often sounds foreign to academics, both lecturers and students and is still a scourge for students, especially final year students who have to publish their thesis, thesis, and/or dissertation in the form of a journal. Government Science students are familiar with tasks that lead to scientific writing, such as making papers, articles, etc. Therefore, several tools can be used by students to make it easier to carry out their assignments and to do a thesis, namely, Mendeley.

Mendeley is software whose birth was inspired by an attempt to integrate “citation & reference manager” into a social network. With this kind of network, researchers in various parts of the world can collaborate and share research data.

Therefore, to make it easier for students to do assignments and improve soft skills, the Indonesian Language Course taught by Sakir Ridho Wijaya, S.IP., M.IP., provided workshops for IGOV UMY batch 2022 students using Mendeley. This activity was held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, and took place in Classroom 401, Lt. 4 UMY Postgraduate Building. With this workshop, it is hoped that it can help students when facing assignments that lead to scientific writing and can make it easier for them when they want to do collaborative research. (ARP)

Increasing IGSC Capacity IGOV UMY Holds Workshop on Capacity Building for IGSC Management

Yogyakarta (12/10) – Yogyakarta (12/10) – The development of the times requires someone to be able to complete work quickly and be able to solve a problem adaptively. This self-adjustment ability is very necessary given the fast-paced and uncertain changes in the environment. To support this capability, it is necessary to increase the capacity of Human Resources (HR) in an organization so that it can develop and can continue to adapt to environmental changes. In general, capacity building can be defined as a process of increasing the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behavior of human resources.

International Program of Government Affairs and Administration Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (IGOV UMY) has a fairly active student community as a forum for all International Government Student Community (IGSC) students to develop themselves. Of course, this needs to be supported by IGOV UMY to provide workshops to increase the capacity of human resources to improve the skills needed to take part in the mandatory program in the international class program, namely student exchange. In addition, IGSC students must also participate in the development of IGSC in the future so they need to be prepared to be able to manage IGSC properly and correctly. In both activities, students need to have adaptability skills quickly and precisely to produce quality Student Exchange activities as well as manage and organize the organization to be better and professional in the hope of making this organization more developed.
